FAW Welsh Cup Draw

A look at Carmarthen Town ahead of Newport City cup tie

Newport City have drawn Carmarthen Town at home in the FAW Welsh Cup Knockout Rounds, with the tie set to be played on 8 October at 14:30.

City’s opposition currently play in the JD Cymru South league, the second tier of Welsh football, and sit fifth in the table, having won four of their last five games.

Carmarthen, who qualified for the UEFA Cup, now Europa League, in 2005 and 2007, were knocked out of the Nathaniel MG Cup last month after they lost 2-0 away to Pontypridd United. Previously in the competition, they beat Llantwit Major AFC 2-0.

Hen Aur Old Gold had a strong 2021/22 campaign, finishing fifth. Newport finished the season in eleventh place in the Ardal South East league.

The Steelmen beat Cefn Cribwr FC 2-1 on the road last week to progress to the next round. It will be a big test for Sam Houldsworth’s men but one they are capable of getting through when you look at the team’s impressive cup form in the past few weeks.

Come down and support the club on the day. Free entry for u16s. £5 plus option of a season ticket for only £25.
