Newport City 7-0 Abercarn United
The Steelmen continued their rich vein of form, as they secured their third successive victory following a sensational win against Abercarn United. The game was once again played in front of a carnival atmosphere, with a high number of spectators in attendance to witness the goal fest.
City started the game on fire and almost scored in the 5th minute, as Ishi-David Okonmah thumped a header narrowly over the bar following a corner. They came even closer just three minutes later, when Rhyse Hudson skewed a low shot from six yards inches past the right post.
It came as no surprise when City eventually took a deserved lead in the 9th minute. A header by Okonmah from a corner fell kindly into the path of Kofi Rowe, allowing Rowe to tuck in from a yard out. Boosted by the goal, the Steelmen doubled their lead just four minutes later when a stunning strike from the edge of area by Hudson flew into the top right corner.
The Steelmen continued to dominate the game; and nearly extended their lead on few occasions. Robert Atkinson fired an effort just past the left post, while Matt Green glanced a header over the bar. City did find the back of the net again following a close range finish by Cole Jarvis, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
The Steelmen did eventually register their third goal, as Okonmah powered in a sublime header from a corner in the 37th minute. They almost added a fourth goal soon after, but Hallett glanced a header from 2 yards over the bar. City, however, did incredibly secure a fourth goal on the stroke of half time. The goal came when Green planted a header from a corner into the bottom left corner.
4-0
City restarted the game where they left off, as they instantly scored a fifth just five minutes after the break. Atkinson was sent clean through on goal, allowing him to place a neat finish into the bottom right corner. The Steelmen refused to relax; and scored again on the hour mark when Hudson doubled his goal tally in the game by converting a nice finish into the bottom left corner.
City refused to lie down; and duly added a seventh in the 65th minute. A clever through ball from Rowe played Atkinson clear inside the area, allowing Atkinson to register his second goal of the game following a nice low finish. Atkinson almost secured his hattrick soon after, but was denied by Abercarn keeper Travis Madden who tipped his goal bound shot wide.
The Steelmen continued to threaten as Hudson and Richard Noyes almost added an eighth goal in the dying stages, but saw their efforts drift narrowly wide. As the full time whistle blew, City experienced a sense of déjà vu, as they took pride in another 7up display for the second successive home game.
