PREVIEW: Geraint Passmore emphasises hard work ahead of Blaenavon battle.

Player/Coach Geraint Passmore has spoken before we visit the Memorial Ground to face Blaenavon Blues this weekend.

Passmore, who returned to the club this summer in a hybrid role, spoke to the website today ahead of our Ardal Southern opener.

“I’m very excited about the game this Saturday after a fantastic start to the season. However, we need to forget about that game and look at the next one and we have a difficult game ahead of us against Blaenavon that will cause us many problems.

“There are many positives and negatives from the Goytre game and it’s about learning from those moments and develop in each game. We put a lot of emphasis on analysis and reflection at the club and our training session on Tuesday reflects some of our weaknesses from the game on Saturday. We then had an analysis session on Thursday to develop some of our strategies and tactics using visual queues.”

Last season we had two tight fixtures against the Pontypool-based outfit, with Dean Clifford scoring the winner in February.

“With regards to Blaenavon we know they are a very strong team physically and tactically. They can mix it up with some exciting possession play and can go direct when needed. We need to be ready to adapt and impose ourselves on the game.

“We almost have a full squad to choose from. A couple unavailable, which gives some other players the opportunity to stake a claim and hold onto that shirt. The most important thing for us is to work hard and earn the right to play. Blaenavon are going to cause us many problems, hopefully we can deal with them and cause them some of our own.

“Would like to wish them the best for the afternoon and for the rest of the season.”
