Marcel Nzarora

Newport City goalkeeper Marcel Nzarora & how he is adapting to life in Wales

Marcel Nzarora joined Newport City in the summer, so we thought we’d take the opportunity to catch up with him and see how he is finding life in South Wales.

How do you think you have settled in at Newport since arriving in the summer?

I believe I have settled in well, everyone around me is very friendly and kind, not to mention how amazing the city is. I believe I am well taken care of now I’m happy at my new home!

How does the level of football compare in Wales to Rwanda?

They compare a lot and that is more to deal with the facilities and support available in both countries since Rwanda is still a developing country and more improvements are still needed to be done. Not to bring Rwanda down or anything, they are also on a good level but I would say Wales is better!

What was it like to represent your country at international level?

I am so glad that I got the opportunity to represent Rwanda at international level it has always been a dream to represent Rwanda internationally, and I managed to achieve it. I feel like I would give everything I have but my country will look good in front of other countries, it also goes to show that Rwandans are also skilled and talented…

Obviously, it hasn’t been the best of starts to the season (in the league). What has gone wrong so far and what do the team need to improve?

This team has great players, coaches and supporters. A lot of things are going right. Coaches are supportive, and the teamwork with other players is great. In the beginning, we did not have a common goal, but now you can see that we have the same goal. We are united, we receive good advice from our coaches, and I see that we continue to build ourselves up so that in the coming days we will be in a very good position.
